Kendrick Lamar recently dropped a guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin's new album, where he takes shots at Drake. In the verse, Kendrick sets the tone by declaring that he's "choosing violence" and challenging an opponent to prove themselves. Although no names are mentioned, a reference to Drake's song "First Person Shooter" and the album it's from suggests that this is more than just a subliminal diss. Kendrick ends his verse with a haymaker, referencing Michael Jackson and Prince's longtime rivalry. This verse marks a new chapter in Kendrick and Drake's complicated history, which spans over 10 years.

Kendrick Lamar and Drake's relationship has always been fraught with tension. While Drake initially embraced Kendrick and even brought him on tour, there was always an undercurrent of competition. This tension came to a head in 2013 when Kendrick dropped his infamous verse on Big Sean's "Control," calling out multiple rappers, including Drake. Since then, there have been numerous subliminal disses and references to each other in their music, but nothing as direct as Kendrick's recent verse on Future and Metro Boomin's album.
Metro Boomin, the producer behind Future and Kendrick's collaboration, has had his own issues with Drake. Late last year, Metro tweeted about losing awards to Drake and his frequent collaborator, 21 Savage. Although Metro downplayed any beef, it's clear that there was tension between them. By choosing to release this diss verse on a Future and Metro album, Kendrick is making a statement and aligning himself with Metro in their issues with Drake.
It's unclear why Future would allow Kendrick to diss Drake on their collaborative album, considering Future's extensive history of collaborations with Drake. However, there have been some rough moments in their relationship, including a public disagreement about a music video and Future allegedly being kicked off of Drake's tour. The title of the album, "We Don't Trust You," and Future's rap on the intro about someone who's his number one fan despite sneak dissing him on the side, suggest that there may be underlying tensions between Future and Drake as well.
