Mercedes has revealed the first performance-focused version of the E-Class W214, developed by AMG. The E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ is available in sedan and estate bodystyles, offering more power, sharper handling, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain option.

The plug-in hybrid system in the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ combines a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with a 161 hp electric motor integrated within the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission. The combined output is 577 hp and 750 Nm of torque, transmitted to all four wheels via the 4Matic+ system. With the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package, the power output increases to an impressive 603 hp. This allows the sedan to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ can be driven solely on electric power, with a top speed limited to 140 km/h. The battery pack has a usable capacity of 21.22 kWh, offering a zero-emission range of 90-101 km. With a 60 kW DC fast charger, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes.

The E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ comes equipped with all the performance features expected from AMG, including a stiffened chassis, sporty suspension setup with adaptive damping, high-performance braking system, and rear-axle steering. The AMG Dynamic Plus package adds additional performance enhancements such as an electronically controlled rear axle locking differential and larger composite brakes.
