Oprah Winfrey recently shared her experience with "shame" and being "ridiculed" about her weight. In a TV special called "An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution," the 70-year-old broadcaster and actress spoke about the pain she endured from late-night talk show hosts and tabloids for 25 years. She mentioned being called names like "bumpy, lumpy, and downright dumpy" on a magazine cover, which she said she would never forget. Winfrey has struggled with being overweight or obese for years, but she has managed to lose a significant amount of weight through medication. While she did not specify which medication she uses, she praised weight-loss drugs for providing hope to people like her who have faced similar struggles.

Winfrey believes that weight-loss drugs have the potential to make a positive impact on individuals struggling with obesity. She described them as a source of hope and emphasized that they help people stop blaming themselves for their weight issues. By taking medication, individuals can alleviate some of the stigma and shame associated with being overweight. Winfrey hopes that society can shift its focus from shaming and judging people based on their weight to supporting and understanding their journey towards a healthier lifestyle.

In addition to discussing weight-loss drugs, Winfrey also revealed that she decided to step down from the board of WeightWatchers. She cited the need to avoid any perceived conflict of interest for the ABC TV special as the reason behind her decision. Winfrey donated her shares in WeightWatchers to the Smithsonian Museum Of African American History And Culture. This move aligns with her mission to promote African American history and culture and make a positive impact on society.

Winfrey concluded the TV special by calling for an end to shaming and blaming individuals based on their weight. She emphasized that there is no place for such behavior in society. As the host of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired from 1986 to 2011, Winfrey had a significant influence on American television. Her openness about her weight struggles and her efforts to shift the conversation surrounding weight and body image have made a lasting impact.
