The Siena women's lacrosse team had a historic day at Hickey Field on Saturday, setting a program record for the largest margin of victory in a 22-4 win over MAAC newcomer Rider. The previous largest margin of victory had been 17 goals, but Sarah Irish's goal in the final seconds pushed the lead to 18, securing the new record.
Siena's victory also matched a program record for the most goals scored in a single game with 22. The team dominated in nearly every facet of the game, winning 26 of 30 draw controls. Senior Taryn Asselin set a new single-game program record for most draw controls in a game with 15. Asselin had previously tied the record earlier this season.
Rider, despite being in their first season of women's lacrosse, had started the season strong. However, they were held to just nine shots, with Siena's defense causing turnovers and limiting their opportunities. Offensively, junior Grace Dobrzynski led the Saints with eight points, while junior Kelly Logue surpassed 100 career points with a six-point performance.
Siena led 7-1 at the end of the first quarter and continued to dominate throughout the game. They outscored Rider 6-2 in the second quarter and 9-1 in the second half. Twelve different players contributed to the team's scoring, with three players recording hat tricks. Siena won their fourth straight game and has held their opponents to single-digit scoring in all five of those victories.
