Kyle Filipowski, the sophomore center for Duke, has had two notable partnerships during March Madness. One is with Great Clips, where he promotes getting a fresh haircut for March Madness. The other is with Dick's Sporting Goods, where he promotes the exclusive "Hey Dude Duke" style shoe. While not incredibly funny, these partnerships are entertaining and showcase Filipowski's basketball skills.
Jeremy Roach, the captain of the Blue Devils, has a partnership with Raid insecticide spray. This campaign features advertisements with Baylor point guard Darianna Littlepage-Buggs. Together, they tackle pests and make sure the insects bug out. It's a clever and effective partnership.
Jared McCain, a freshman guard for Duke, has the most partnerships among the team. He has collaborations with Champ Sports, RECOVER 180, Crocs, and Celcius. Recently, he surprised many by announcing partnerships with Skims, Kim Kardashian's brand, and American Eagle. These partnerships have contributed to McCain's estimated $1 million in endorsements.
Tyrese Proctor, a sophomore guard, has a prominent partnership with Express, the clothing brand. Proctor looks put together and dashing in the current advertisements. Although the reasoning behind this partnership is unclear, Proctor may explore partnerships with more punny brands in the future.
Ryan Young, a Duke athlete, has an interesting partnership with Rich Mar Floral, a floral shop in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This partnership is unexpected, considering Young's popularity at Duke and formerly at Northwestern. However, the marketing worked as the floral company's name became a question on the ordering test for tenters in K-Ville.
Not only Duke athletes, but other athletes are also capitalizing on their name, image, and likeness. Armando Bacot, a North Carolina forward, has a partnership with Frosted Flakes. Jack Gohlke, after his team's victory, partnered with TurboTax. These partnerships show how quickly deals come together in the wake of a player's success.
Here are some previous entertaining NIL deals. Bijan Robinson, a former Texas running back, had his own dijon mustard called "Bijan Mustardson Dijon Mustard." Matthew Coughlin, a Michigan State punter, went viral for his partnership with the Locked On Spartans podcast. DeColdest Crawford, a Louisiana Tech wide receiver, signed a deal with SOS Heating & Cooling, making it the coolest partnership ever.
The best NIL deal goes to Jeremy Roach and Raid for their clever and punny partnership. The worst NIL deal is awarded to Matthew Coughlin for a lackluster promotion. The punniest NIL deal is DeColdest Crawford's partnership with SOS Heating & Cooling, showcasing the coolest pun.
