Eight Tornadoes Confirmed in Ohio's Severe Weather, Three Dead

At least eight tornadoes have been confirmed in the severe weather that swept through Ohio on Thursday. This weather event resulted in the death of three individuals and caused injuries to at least 25 people. The National Weather Service has deployed storm survey teams to assess the damage caused by the tornadoes and determine their size and strength.

The strongest tornado recorded was an EF3 with winds exceeding 130 mph. It touched down in Auglaize County near Fryburg and continued through northern Logan County into the communities near Indian Lake. Orchard Island, Lakeview, and Russells Point experienced significant damage due to the tornado. State emergency management officials are expecting a more detailed report on the extent of the damage in the coming days. EF3 tornadoes have winds ranging from 136-165 mph.



An EF1 tornado caused damage in the western part of Mercer County. More information regarding the size and path of the tornado is expected to be released soon. EF1 tornadoes have winds ranging from 86-110 mph according to the Enhanced Fujita scale. Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and damage was reported in Celina and an area near Skeels Road at the Indiana state border.




Another EF1 tornado touched down in Mercer and Auglaize counties. It is believed to have started near Celina and ended north of Moulton. This is in addition to the EF1 tornado that occurred in western Mercer County. More information regarding these tornadoes will be provided as it becomes available.




A tornado with winds of 120 mph, classified as an EF2, caused damage in parts of Crawford and Richland Counties. The tornado touched down northeast of New Washington and lifted after traveling ten miles on the ground in Plymouth Township. Meteorologists estimate that the tornado had a width of 250 yards.



Based on initial storm surveys, the tornado that struck north of Johnstown was classified as an EF1. It first touched down in central Delaware County and continued through north-central Licking County. Additional details about this tornado will be provided in the coming days.




An EF1 tornado with estimated winds of 100 mph caused damage to five homes and several farm buildings in southwestern Hancock County. The tornado touched down in Orange Township and remained on the ground for over three miles, moving eastward before lifting in Van Buren Township. The tornado was approximately 100 yards wide.



The National Weather Service confirmed an EF2 tornado in Darke and Miami Counties. It is believed that this tornado originated in Indiana before crossing the state line into Ohio. Further information regarding the tornado's strength and path will be released in the coming days.



In Union County, a tornado with winds of at least 111 mph touched down near Broadway. This tornado has been classified as an EF2, and additional updates will be provided as more survey information becomes available.
