The Philadelphia Eagles have made a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire quarterback Kenny Pickett. The Eagles saw an opportunity to add depth at the quarterback position and monitor moves around the league. They recognized the potential fallout of the Steelers adding veteran Russell Wilson as their new quarterback and decided to pursue Pickett as a backup for Jalen Hurts.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were willing to move on from Kenny Pickett after adding Russell Wilson to their roster. The Eagles took advantage of this and agreed to terms on a trade for Pickett. In addition to Pickett, the Eagles will also receive a 2024 fourth-round pick. In exchange, they will send a 2024 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks to the Steelers. The trade is pending a physical.

Kenny Pickett, who was born in Oakhurst, New Jersey, grew up cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles. He attended Eagles games with his father and even met Eagles Hall of Fame quarterback Donovan McNabb as a kid. Before being drafted by the Steelers in 2022, Pickett had a successful college career at the University of Pittsburgh. He set numerous school records and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2021.

In his rookie season with the Steelers, Kenny Pickett set a franchise record for most passing yards in a first career start. He showed promise throughout the season and finished with impressive stats. In his second season, Pickett started the first 12 games before suffering an ankle injury. He had a winning record as a starter and performed well, completing 62 percent of his passes.

With the addition of Kenny Pickett, the Philadelphia Eagles now have Jalen Hurts, Pickett, and Tanner McKee at the quarterback position. Last year's No. 2 quarterback, Marcus Mariota, signed with Washington in free agency. The Eagles have prioritized depth at the quarterback position and are prepared for any potential injuries or setbacks.
