Microsoft is set to launch its new product, Copilot for Security, next month. This innovative AI chatbot is specifically designed for cybersecurity professionals, providing them with the necessary tools to protect against threats. Unlike Copilot for Microsoft 365, Copilot for Security will be charged based on usage, at a rate of $4 per hour. This consumption model allows businesses to scale their cybersecurity efforts according to their needs.
Powered by OpenAI's GPT-4 and Microsoft's own security-specific model, Copilot for Security functions as a chatbot that offers real-time information on security incidents, threat summaries, and more. Through this platform, cybersecurity workers can access the latest information on security threats, utilizing Microsoft's extensive threat intelligence gathering that collects 78 trillion daily signals. Additionally, Copilot for Security features a pinboard section for collaboration purposes and the ability to summarize events for reporting.
With Copilot for Security, users can interact with the chatbot using natural language inputs, upload files for analysis, and even analyze code. All prompts and interactions are logged for auditing purposes. The pay-as-you-go pricing model enables businesses to easily scale their AI-powered cybersecurity efforts without upfront charges per device or user. This allows for experimentation and learning on a small scale before expanding.
Microsoft's emphasis on AI in cybersecurity is timely, given recent attacks from Russian state-sponsored hackers. Nobelium, the group responsible for the SolarWinds attack, was able to access Microsoft executive email inboxes for an extended period. This attack resulted in the theft of some of Microsoft's source code. In response, Microsoft is revamping its software security measures, particularly following Azure cloud attacks and breaches of email servers. Copilot for Security is part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts to strengthen its security offerings.
