NC State Men's Basketball Team Advances to ACC Championship Game with Overtime Victory

The NC State men's basketball team scored the final nine points of overtime to defeat third-seed Virginia, 73-65, Friday night to advance to the ACC Championship game. This is the Pack's first time reaching the championship game since the 2007 season. NC State will face top-seed North Carolina in the title game, which will be televised on ESPN at 8:30 p.m.
NC State advanced past Virginia thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Michael O'Connell to tie the game at 58 at the end of regulation. O'Connell's shot banked in right in front of the NC State bench, sending the game into overtime. It was a crucial shot that kept the Pack's hopes alive in the tournament.
In overtime, Virginia struck first, but NC State quickly responded by going to DJ Burns, Jr. in the post, who scored to bring the Pack within one. Burns continued to be a key player for NC State, scoring again to give the Pack its first lead of the extra period. Mohamed Diarra also made significant contributions, rebounding a missed shot and laying it in to put NC State back in front. Despite UVA's efforts, they were unable to score again, allowing NC State to secure the victory.
DJ Burns, Jr. led the NC State team with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He played a crucial role in the team's victory, making key plays in overtime and contributing to the Pack's strong performance. Ben Middlebrooks and Michael O'Connell each chipped in 12 points, while Casey Morsell finished with 11. Mohamed Diarra also had a strong game, finishing with nine points and an impressive 12 rebounds. Diarra has set an ACC Tournament record with 46 rebounds in the Pack's four games in Washington, D.C.
