A tire fell off a United Airlines flight departing from San Francisco International Airport to Osaka, Japan on Thursday morning. The incident occurred during takeoff, and the tire debris landed in one of the airport's employee parking lots. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The flight was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and landed safely. United Airlines is currently working to arrange a new aircraft to transport the passengers to Osaka later in the day.

Despite the tire falling off the aircraft, no injuries were reported. Sky7, a news helicopter, captured footage of the scene where police had placed caution tape around cars that were hit by the tire. The runway at San Francisco International Airport was briefly closed to clear the debris, but it was soon reopened, with no further impact on airport operations expected.

An eyewitness, Gary Glass, described the incident and the aftermath. He witnessed the tire falling from the plane just after takeoff and saw it hit several nearby vehicles. Glass mentioned that the tire was spinning at a rapid speed and bounced onto a small compact car before bouncing again and landing on a red Tesla, completely totaling it. Multiple cars were damaged, but luckily, no one was hurt. Glass expressed his shock at witnessing such an event and described the sound of the impact as "a lot."

Aviation experts have stated that planes losing tires is a rare occurrence and does not indicate a larger safety issue. Alan Price, a former chief pilot for Delta Air Lines, emphasized the importance of avoiding single points of failure in aviation. He assured that the remaining tires on the aircraft are fully capable of handling the load. John Cox, a retired pilot and professor of aviation safety, agreed and stated that the incident was likely a maintenance issue rather than a problem caused by the manufacturer.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be investigating the incident to determine the cause of the tire falling off the United Airlines flight. The FAA's investigation will contribute to ensuring the safety of future flights. United Airlines expressed gratitude to the pilots, flight attendants, and ground teams who handled the situation professionally and assisted the passengers upon arrival.
